We have also be upgraded the streetscape to complement the work currently underway on Elizabeth Street between Devonport Road and Grey Street, creating an attractive and safer environment for the community.
The access between Elizabeth Street and The Strand Extension has been improved, with a new walkway that features a cycle runnel (a guide alongside the stairway so people can wheel their bikes up and down without having to lift and carry them) to make sure pedestrians and cyclists can use it safely.
In time, people will be able to go between the top of Elizabeth Street, down the new walkway, and through the recently installed rail underpass to link with a new boardwalk being constructed along the water’s edge into the city centre.
Why are we doing this?
Work is underway to revitalise our city centre so it becomes a place where people from near and far want to visit, learn, live, work and play.
As part of this, we are upgrading key city centre streetscapes and public spaces. This will help transform our city centre into an even greater place for our community and visitors to enjoy.
