If you love community events, picnics with the whānau or throwing a ball around with friends, this will be the perfect spot.
This project includes:
- a large, grassed recreation and event space with gardens and trees
- a new half basketball court
- upgrades to the shared pathway along the water’s edge – including seating and planting
- the creation of a new rocky foreshore (seawall) that will attract marine plants and animals.
This work is a key part of the upgrade of our waterfront to attract people from near and far - making it a destination that people are proud of and want to spend more time in – a place that is uniquely Tauranga.
Closely aligned to this work is the development of a new playground and amenity block.
The entire site will remain closed for the duration of the works, we thank you for your patience and look forward to revealing the upgrades towards the end of this year.
Imagine a rocky foreshore to explore right in the heart of our city

Artist impression of the new 'living seawall' being constructed at the northern end of the Tauranga waterfront reserve.
As part of this project we’re creating a ‘living seawall’ to attract more marine plants and animals to our waterfront. It will include 100 water pods specially designed for tidal plant and animal life. Step ledges for viewing will make the area around the seawall safer for people of all ages to explore and interact with tidal plant and animal life. Work on the northern stretch of the seawall is well underway and expected to be ready for a wide range of marine life to move in to by the end of the year.
