Safety improvements for Welcome Bay Road - Waitaha Road intersection

Latest update - 15 August

This week the raised pedestrian crossing with a traffic island on Welcome Bay Road in front of the shops was completed. Next Monday and Tuesday we will have to relocate some streetlights near the roundabout and we’ll do the final line marking on the site. This means we’ll have narrowed lanes and sometimes stop/go - weather dependent. After this you might, at times, see people working on minor tidy-ups that can emerge from an audit at the end of the project. This will also need narrowed lanes at times.

We appreciate your patience while these works are completed.

Why are we doing it?

The safety improvements include a new roundabout, two new raised pedestrian crossings and a 3-metre-wide shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. We will also upgrade the crossing at the Welcome Bay Village shops to a raised pedestrian crossing.

Where possible we will make all efforts to limit traffic impacts by keeping work off the road.

Project timing

Our work hours are weekdays 7am–6pm. The completion of this project will be mid August 2024, weather dependent.

We appreciate your patience while these works are completed.
