Safety upgrade for Otūmoetai Road and Cherrywood Drive

Latest update - 16 August

Work is nearly finished on the safety upgrade to the existing crossings on Ōtūmoetai Road and at Cherrywood Drive. This week we have asphalted the raised table on Ōtūmoetai Road. And after applying the road markings, we will tidy up and do some planting around the site next week. We expect to complete this work at the end of next week - weather dependent.

Why are we doing it?

The upgrade aims to improve safety for people walking or cycling and to reduce speed of approaching vehicles at this busy intersection.

This improvement includes:

  • an upgrade of the pedestrian crossing on Ōtūmoetai Road (close to Cherrywood Drive) into a raised pedestrian crossing with refuge island
  • a raised safety platform without zebra markings (which means vehicles have priority) with a central refuge island on Cherrywood Drive
  • new traffic signs and road marking
  • upgrade of streetlighting.

Traffic Management

We will work weekdays 7am to 5pm. Stop/go traffic management will be required for this work. Please take extra time driving and follow directions from our staff onsite.

We apologise for any inconvenience while this work is completed and thank you for your patience.
