Other things happening in Kopurererua Valley

There’re wonderful things happening at the valley. Check it out.

Community involvement

Community plantings days

While we wait for the new plants to be in place, other plantings are taking place now in different parts of the valley. This work cannot be done by Council alone.

The Kopurererua Valley Rotary Centennial Trust has been instrumental in supporting community planting within the valley.

Over the years, the Trust has worked in partnership with Council and has also raised significant funds to enhance the valley.

As a result of this partnership, the valley has transitioned from a rural farmland to a series of native bush and wetlands with recreational trails throughout.

Public toilet facilities

New Exeloo public toilet facilities have been installed.

These new toilet facilities are located on the eastern side of the reserve at the Faulkner Street entrance.

Puketoromiro Pā

What’s been achieved

Over the past five years Council has been collaborating with Ngāi Tamarāwaho to reinstate the archaeological features of Puketoromiro Pā which stands towards the southern end of the valley.

The large exotic trees have been forested off the pā.

A floating walkway (a carefully constructed walkway built above ground to preserve the features) has been completed, so you can walk on a fixed route to the pā. This walkway and other steps have set out to protect the archaeology.

Planting of native species near the pā has been completed.

What's coming up

An appropriate opening of the pā is coming up next in partnership with Ngāi Tamarāwaho.

Cycle stopover, rest and interpretation area at the pā.
